Spruce up your outdoors by adding a DIY swing! This swing can be easily created with simple instructions, vibrant colours, and basic tools. METHOD

This DIY is a great gifting idea for families as it can be used by adults and children with an outdoor space on a daily basis. Take a trip to your local carpenter and get a 3/4-inch-thick multi-wood plank measuring 22.5 x 8 inches with 4 x12 mm holes. Rounding the corners is a safer option when there are younger children. You can work with this Harlequin pattern using only two colours, and black and white. Start with a base coat of black. When dry, follow with two layers of white where the colours will be added. The key to a good finish is to slowly add layers of paint until you get very neat edges and full colour saturation. Keep the back black, date and sign your work with a marker. If you are hanging the swing on a balcony, make sure there is ample space to swing and that you face a direction which is safe. Fix two hooks in the ceiling to which you can attach a metal chain. Finally, adjust the ropes to the desired length. This model is strong enough to support an adult and wide enough for two children to sit side by side. Happy swinging!
