The interiors of Svatma, Thanjavur are a lesson in making wood the hero of your home
Located in the ancient town of Thanjavur, Svatma is a 38 suite, restored family mansion decorated with sleek wooden furniture, traditional Tanjore paintings and bronze artefacts.
The use of wood throughout, from beamed wooden ceilings to wood finish flooring and furniture, results in a warm and inviting ambience. In fact, wood is the hero of the interiors and is used in decorative elements such as wall panelling as well.
Highlight your traditional artworks by placing them in barren alcoves and niches, that act as a ready frame. Bland corners can also be brought to life with art. Prop an easel in a corner and place your artwork on it to bring the nook to life.
While décor rules demand minimal use of wood in the bathroom, you can bend them a bit by using wooden furniture in the dry area or in combination with the vanity, just as has been done in Svatma. We absolutely love the wooden mirror frame with intricate patterns! It’s something that can be replicated for the bedroom dresser as well.
If you’re wondering what kind of accents you can pair with dark wood furniture, look no further than bronze and gold finish artefacts such as miniature statues, candlestands and even traditional platters.
