How to Install IPS Floors:

Installation of IPS concrete flooring is a multistep, labour-intensive process which contributes to the overall IPS flooring cost. Here are all the major steps involved:

1. Step 1: Surface Preparation:

Ensure that the subfloor is clean, level, and free of any debris. Repair any cracks or imperfections in the subfloor.

2. Step 2: Markings for Consistency:

Once you’ve chosen the desired thickness, to maintain consistency5 and to account for any required sloping, make markings, every 1 to 2 metres, on the wall for reference.

3. Step 3: Set the Level:

Pour dummy concrete holes every 2 to 3 sq. m. on the prepared surface to ensure level consistency.

4. Step 4: Pouring the Mixture:

Once the dummy holes have completely settled, pour the mixture for the flooring. Ensure to do it in panels to avoid any cracks from shrinkage later. Ideally, for residential use the size of the panel shouldn’t exceed 3 sq. m and in industrial space, it shouldn’t exceed 2 sq. m.

5. Step 5: Evening it:

For smooth IPS floor finish, level out the poured mixture with a trowel or a wooden float. The last bit of levelling should be done before the mixture starts hardening.

6. Step 6: A glossy Touch:

For a glossy IPS floor finish, a thin 2-3 mm layer of cement punny is applied.

7. Step 7: Curing:

Allow the IPS flooring to cure for the recommended time, which is typically around 15 days. In the meantime, cover the IPS cement flooring with wet Hessian cloth to avoid any excessive seepage of water/moisture that can damage the concrete bonds.

8. Step 8: Vacuum Dewatering:

Remove all the excess water with vacuum dewatering to ensure a smoother finish and harder flooring.

9. Step 9: Sealing:

You can also seal the IPS cement flooring with wax to maintain its colour and mitigate damage from moisture and wear.
