Nine practical steps to build a vastu-friendly kitchen in 2022

Southeast Kitchen Vastu or Northwest Kitchen Vastu:

Southeast or Northwest directions are considered ideal locations to set up your home kitchen. Earlier when cooking was done on woodfired stoves, these corners were most preferred since hot winds, blowing from S-W to N-E direction, could not cause damage to the house by fire.

Note: Avoid the Northeast location for your kitchen.

North-west Kitchen Vastu remedies

1. North-west is the second most preferred option for the kitchen.
2. You can position the gas stove in the South-East direction of the kitchen.
   

North-east Kitchen Vastu remedies

1. The gas stove on the southeast side of the kitchen.
2. Using a blue colour for painting the walls of your kitchen is also recommended.
   
   

Southwest Kitchen Vastu remedies

1. Placing the gas stove in the southeast direction of the kitchen is preferable.
2. Painting the walls of your kitchen with light yellow shades is ideal.

2. PLANNING YOUR KITCHEN AS PER VASTU

If you have a raw house and it is still under construction, you get the freedom to decide where your kitchen should be built.

As per kitchen Vastu guidance, the southeast corner of your home is generally used for the kitchen. Thus, this is perfect for your kitchen. If you do not find a suitable place in that corner, then the northwest direction operates sufficiently.

3. PLACING YOUR KITCHEN STOVE AS PER VASTU

It is suggested that the Kitchen stove should be set in the southeast corner of the kitchen.

Since an L-shaped layout, in general, inhabits the two adjoining walls, it is natural to place the main kitchen appliance i.e stove there, while the rest of the countertop space can be used for cooking and preparation.

4. SETTING UP YOUR KITCHEN AS PER VASTU

All of your kitchen’s water-related equipment like sinks, washbasins, water pipes, and the kitchen drain are advised to be kept in the north or northeast direction within the kitchen.

According to Vastu, kitchen elements like sinks is best not placed anywhere near the stove or other fire-based appliances, since water and fire are opposite elements and they repel each other.

5. BEST LOCATIONS FOR DOORS, EXHAUSTS AND WINDOWS AS PER VASTU

Keeping a window and exhaust fan in the kitchen is very useful. It helps to vent out any smells that get emitted. Windows also promote exposure to natural daylight during the day. Always keep them open during cooking and other times as well, if feasible. For the installation of an electric chimney, you can go for the south zone.

It is advisable to have the doors to the kitchen positioned in the north, east or northeast direction. Kitchen doors should open clockwise. 

6. THE IDEAL KITCHEN COLOURS AS PER VASTU

Vastu Shastra for Kitchen highly views the role of colours in determining the overall Vastu of the house. It believes that every colour justifies a specific purpose, and colours in the kitchen should be chosen intelligently and carefully.

The best Vastu colours for the kitchen are light colours. Light Pink, orange and red; though green can be considered as well. (For a South-East Kitchen). Light and pastel colours such as orange, soft pink, icy blue and green make the food appear tempting. They change the way food is sensed. These colours not only alleviate the kitchen Vastu but also evoke hunger.

7. THE CORRECT POSITION OF REFRIGERATOR AS PER VASTU

Positioning the refrigerator in the south-east, north, south and even west direction is thought to help with overcoming challenges in life and also provides an organised, peaceful kitchen environment.

Also, remember to keep it at least a foot away from the corners.

8. KITCHEN VASTU FOR STORING GROCERIES

When it comes to storage of your food supplies, utensils and crockery, it is advisable to store them in the southwest direction of the kitchen. This is thought to bring good fortune and luck.

Note: Storage above the stove should be avoided. Space above the stove is either left open or fitted with a chimney to remove odours and fumes.

9. BEST PLACES TO INSTALL ELECTRICAL APPLIANCES AS PER KITCHEN VASTU

According to the Vastu rules, you should keep kitchen electronic appliances such as a mixer grinder, oven, microwaves in the southeast direction.

Note: Avoid keeping the electrical Appliances in the northeast direction.

WHAT TO AVOID FOR MAINTAINING THE RIGHT KITCHEN VASTU?

• Your gas stove should not face the entrance of the kitchen.

• Try to avoid placing the cabinets or storage racks in the eastern and northern directions.
