These stores are beautifully designed, offer a respite from the chaos of the city and stock greens we love more than Matcha… we are just going to start hanging out here!
Plant enthusiasts, rejoice! These spaces are not just designed to house different varieties of flora, but create a soothing ambience where you can spend hours browsing nature’s gifts in a peaceful setting, as you enjoy your surroundings.
Wrapped in a glass ceiling just like European conservatories, The Orangery is Mumbai’s first such space, located at the entrance of Nilaya Anthology in Lower Parel. Brought to life by landscape architect Taera Chowna, The Orangery houses several indoor plants of varying species and heights that thrive under natural light through the glass roof, and a constant temperature of 24 degree Celsius. From raffia palms and monstera to large ficus benjaminas and hanging ferns suspended from the ceiling, Chowna has used plants best-suited for the scale of the space. Displayed in pots and planters picked from Europe and India, The Orangery creates a welcoming, sensorial experience that’s equally suited to wander around or sit in a quiet corner surrounded by greens.
A brand started in a bid to revolutionise the home gardening trend, Ugaoo came to life in 2015, when landscape architect and founder Siddhant Bhalinge decided to blend his family’s agricultural roots with cutting-edge technology. Offering everything from plants, seeds, pots, gardening tools and services in both online and offline settings, the brand has a presence in various cities like Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, and Bengaluru. Its stores’ design aesthetic, however, has a familiar feel with their terracotta walls, archways, wooden shelves, and an earthy palette of browns and greens. Drawing inspiration from the idea that plant shopping should feel as good as plants make you feel—calm, unhurried, positive—Ugaoo stores are designed as urban jungles that offer a respite from the chaos of the city, right in the midst of it.
Located inside Oleander Farms in Karjat, Kensho Greenery is a plant boutique housing over 100 indoor and outdoor plant varieties. Designed in-house by the founders of the farms, the Ahuja family, the space features aesthetic corners such as a brick wall, wooden touches, and a galore of greens all around. A traditional vegetable cart loaded with potted plants, a bright yellow corner with a pink neon sign, and creepers hanging down from the ceiling are other charming design touches. Not just meant as a plant shopping space, Kensho Greenery also has a DIY potting bar that encourages visitors to begin their gardening journey by picking a plant and pot of their choice, adding soil and planting it.
Reimagining the outdoors of a home, Beruru offers an eclectic range of plants, planters, garden accessories, decor, and furniture for al fresco spaces. The lifestyle brand is founded by designer Radeesh Shetty, with its flagship store in Bengaluru. Spread across 6,000 square feet, the expansive space near Cubbon Park is designed like a glass conservatory. Featuring mythological sculptures and large planters on the outside and a curated collection of greens inside, Beruru takes a sustainable design approach incorporating native landscaping, permeable surfaces for water recharge, rainwater harvesting systems, and natural ventilation. The store, that’s built around a peepul tree, has six adjoining glass houses and a meandering walkway letting customers pause, explore, and imagine their own slice of green heaven. Beruru also has stores in Goa, Chennai, and Hyderabad.
India’s first ISO 9001:2015 certified nursery, Go Green is located at the foothills of Karnala Bird Sanctuary, in Panvel. Offering over 1,500 varieties of indoor, outdoor, medicinal and rare plants, it is designed as a nature-led experiential garden mall rather than a nursery. From a lush, green corridor to an oxygen zone with specific air-purifying plants, Go Green creates an inviting atmosphere to learn more about its flora. Also housing a cafe serving vegetarian fare and a lawn for hosting interactive events and workshops, the space has been conceived by founder Bharat Soni. Its offerings go far beyond plant shopping, including services like landscaping, garden maintenance, organic farming, and more. Lined with trees, colourful flowers, and potted greens, Go Green is a haven for plant lovers.
