‘The Art of Hosting’ breathes drama and opulence into tablescaping

A homeowner well-versed in hosting will know the importance of getting your table decoration just right. But ‘The Art of Hosting’ exhibition, running currently at Nilaya Anthology, levels up the design quotient of the dining table. And it does so by bringing together an unconventional design quartet to create elegant and uncommon tablescapes.

This exhibition is that rare opportunity for creatives from diverse disciplines to share gallery space. Experiential designer and culinary innovator Eeshan Kashyap is no stranger to the convergence of food and design. His three counterparts, however, are exploring the dining table as their creative canvas for the first time. For this exhibition, fashion label Péro, Hyderabad-based architect Sona Reddy and visual artist Shilo Shiv Suleman have swapped their respective mediums for the hosting table.

The innovative idea uses immersive tablescapes to convey the power of design in fostering emotional and cultural connections. And each one is the outcome of its creator’s individual vision and sensibility. The table becomes a medium for visual storytelling, rich with cultural touchstones, engaging themes and vibrant colours. It also offers viewers the opportunity to experience entertaining as an extension of identity and culture. To make things more interesting, the designers have used Nilaya Anthology’s craft and design collectables to decorate their respective tables.

The exhibition, set up at Gallery 1, opened on September 27 and runs through October. Happily, it also coincides with Nilaya Anthology’s first festive season since opening its doors this year. “For our first festive season at Anthology, we wanted to celebrate the way we celebrate—across communities, across geographies, in big and small homes. We gather with those we love and we celebrate by sharing food and stories. The Art of Hosting is all about the memories we make and the ones we share these memories with!” says creative director Pavitra Rajaram.

The timing couldn’t be better to pay a visit—to see some unique designs, enjoy the festive vibe and seek some inspiration when it comes to entertaining at home.
