January 2026 (On Going and Upcoming)

 

1. Kochi-Muziris Biennale

Dates: December 2025 - March 31 2026
Location: Kochi, Kerala
Overview: One of the most awaited art events in the world, the Kochi-Muziris Biennale, which commenced in December 2025 will run through till March 31, 2026. Curated by visual artist Nikhil Chopra, this edition is titled ‘For the Time Being’. The biennial event will feature contemporary artists from around the world presenting installations, performances, artworks and other events across Fort Kochi and Mattancherry.

2. Krishna Reddy at 100: Of Friendships

Date: December 2025 - March 21 2026

Location: Tokaroun, Santiniketan, West Bengal, India

Overview: The event pays tribute to the legendary artist Krishna Reddy, a pioneer in modern print making, to mark his 100th anniversary. The event features exhibitions, discussions and archival displays in Shantiniketan, a place that was significant in his artistic journey.

 

3. Lone Runner’s Laboratory

Dates: January 8 - February 21, 2026

Location: Experimenter, Colaba, Mumbai

Overview: ‘Lone Runner’s Laboratory’ is contemporary artist Prabhakar Pachpute’s first solo at Experimenter, Colaba. The artist known for his introspective practice, presents an array of symbolic sculptural artworks that are metaphorical in nature and allude to broader socio-political themes.

 

4. ‘GUL’ by artists WOLF, Mumbai

Dates: January 8- February 8, 2026
Location: 47-A Gallery, Khotachiwadi, Mumbai
Overview: WOLF is a Jaipur based art studio founded by artists Ritu Singh and Surya Singh, who use art to spark conversations around environmental awareness and cultural preservation. They work with recycled materials and turn waste into objects of beauty and meaning. GUL is their fourth solo show, showcasing a symbolic garden where each floral work is designed from discarded materials.

5. Field Notes (On the Afterlife of Trees), a solo exhibition by Vishal Kumar Gupta

Dates: January 9 - March 7, 2026

Location: Emami Art, KCC, Kolkata

Overview: Emerging artist Vishal Kumar Gupta presents a spectacular body of oil paintings, watercolours, and graphite works shaped by careful layering. Drawing his inspiration from nature, he uses overlooked materials like branches, tree stumps, twigs and manipulates them into expressive forms.

 

6. Weaving Flowers: Archana Hande’s Solo Exhibition Explores Textile History and Labour

Date: January 10 - March 1 2026

Location: Dr. Bhau Daji Lad (BDL) Museum, Mumbai

Overview: This showcase is a solo exhibition of the works by celebrated artist Archana Hande, curated by BDL’s Managing Trustee and Honorary Director, the art historian, and curator Tasneem Zakaria Mehta. It connects the city’s colonial past with its contemporary urban identity, unfolding as a reflective journey through textiles, legacies, and personal narratives.

7. Beneath the Turning Sky: MAP Bengaluru’s New Cosmic Art Exhibition

Date: January 17 2026 - February 2 2029

Location: Museum of Art and Photography (MAP), Bengaluru

Overview: This is the museum’s second permanent exhibition where works by pioneering Indian modernists such as V.S. Gaitonde and S.H. Raza will be juxtaposed against folk and popular culture artifacts. The exhibition will showcase over 60 artworks across paintings, sculptures, textiles, installations and more.

8. ACETECH Hyderabad

Dates: January 23 - January 25 2026

Location: HITEX Exhibition Center, Hyderabad

Overview: A leading trade show for architecture and design, brings together global brands and industry professionals under one roof. The event highlights innovations in construction, art, and design, creating a dynamic platform for collaboration and showcasing the latest advancements in the industry.

9. Bloom at Dusk

Dates: January 23 - March 11 2026

Location: Ojas Art, New Delhi

Overview: ‘Bloom at Dusk’ is a celebration of one of India’s most remarkable contemporary indigenous artists, the Padma Shri awardee Jodhaiya Bai Baiga (1937-2024). The retrospective showcase will feature artworks rooted in her childhood, nature and her interpretations of mythological spirits.

10. Jaipur Design Week

Dates: January 27- February 3 2026

Location: Jaipur

Overview: Founded by Sana Rezwan, art collector and founder of Art Lab Studio, this festival bridges Jaipur’s heritage arts with the evolving landscape of contemporary artistic practices. This multidisciplinary design festival will feature panel discussions, workshops, and installations by emerging artists, celebrating contemporary art, creativity, and cultural dialogue.

 

11. Baro Art

Dates: January 30 - February 1, 2026

Location: Urmila Art Gallery, Kanoria Centre for Arts, Ahmedabad

Overview: Baro Art, founded by Srila Chatterjee, is known to curate works from local artists, craftsmen and designers. This Ahmedabad show lineup brings together a mix of contemporary and folk art, showcasing original, certified works by both established and emerging artists.

12. Kala Ghoda Arts Festival

Dates: January 31- February 8th 2026

Location: Kala Ghoda, Fort, Mumbai

Overview: Kala Ghoda is a lively hub of art, heritage, and creativity, where historic architecture meets contemporary energy through its museums, galleries, boutiques, and cafés. Over nine days, the festival transforms this iconic Mumbai precinct into a vibrant celebration of art and culture, complete with striking installations and a dynamic lineup.

Location: NSIC Exhibition Ground, New Delhi

Overview: South Asia’s renowned art fair will feature a display of modern and contemporary art from the region. 14. Hampi Utsav 2026: Tracing Culture, Heritage and Legacy of the Vijayanagara Empire

Date: February 13 - February 15 2026

Location: Hampi, Karnataka

Overview: Also known as Vijaya Utsava, this event is a vibrant celebration of the city’s art, architecture, and cultural heritage. The three day festival will showcase theatrical performances, traditional puppetry and grand processions. Visitors can also explore handcrafted objects by local artisans, offering a glimpse into the region’s rich folk arts.

15. India Design ID 2026

Dates: February 19 - February 22 2026

Location: NSIC Exhibition Ground, New Delhi

Overview: India Design Week is the most definitive event for architecture and interior design, bringing together top designers, brands, and architects under one roof. The fair showcases a vast array of curated exhibitions, new product launches, striking art installations, workshops and engaging panel discussions providing an insight into the latest trends and innovations in luxury design space.

16. Goa Open Arts Festival, 2026

Dates: February 20 - February 25 2026

Location: Old GMC Complex, Panjim, Goa

Overview: Organised by the Open Arts Initiative (an artist-led Collective), the fest opens up the arena for the undiscovered and emerging artists across India. The event location nestled in the scenic Konkan coast serves as a perfect venue for the festival. The program lineup entails vibrant art installations, performances, workshops and much more.

17. Bombay Art Society’s 134th All India Annual Art Exhibition

Dates: February 24 - March 2 2026

Location: Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai

Overview: The All India Annual Art Exhibition, held at the prestigious Jehangir Art Gallery in Mumbai will feature a diverse range of paintings, sculptures, and mixed-media works by both established and emerging artists. 18. Design Cultures | City Collabs 2026 – Kolkata Edition

Overview: Organised by Aakar, a design consultancy founded by Bhawna Agarwal & Ritu Bansal, in partnership with Raw Collaborative, the event will bring together some of India’s finest designers and creative entrepreneurs under one roof, celebrating sustainability, heritage, and craftsmanship. The showcase features a curated display of striking artworks.
