No Plans? No Problem! Discover creative tips to transform your space into the ultimate New Year’s Eve hotspot in minutes.
After a year of exhilarating experiences, happy moments and a fair share of sorrows, we are here, bidding adieu to 2023. As years fly by and times change, the only thing that remains is the memories created with our dear ones. And what better way to start the New Year than cherishing those times and making plans for 2024.
New Year’s Eve is basically all about sparkles, alcohol, dancing and creating moments. Foregoing lavish parties and avoiding the hassles of being in a crowded club, fighting to get a drink and getting pushed around, an intimate house gathering has become a popular choice. Whether you decide to host a cocktail party or a karaoke night, it's up to you. Starting from an elaborate meal or easy finger foods to delectable cocktails or non-alcoholic beverages, the aim is to cherish 2023 and welcome the new year with new zeal.
The countdown is on! Now the question is how to plan the New Year's Eve party. To make the process easier, we have got a few tips, tricks and recommendations from professionals that are bound to make your last-minute preparations even seem more well-thought-out, right from festive platters and boozy cocktails to intriguing games and charming décor.
Skip hiring professional mixologists and let people be their own bartenders for the night. You can provide a self-serve bar, where your guests could use mixers and make their cocktails. Bartisans, an artisanal mixer brand, with over 18 flavours that can be paired with all key spirits- Gin, Vodka, Tequila, Rum and Whisky, is a great way to ensure all your guests can make delicious cocktails!
“As a host, I absolutely love a New Year’s Eve house party! It gives me so much freedom to conceptualise. It can be a simple dinner and cocktails or a themed extravaganza, it’s all in our control. A good bar can elevate your night, so ensure that everyone has something to drink, teetotallers included!”, says Jovita Mascarenhas, Co-founder of Bartisans. While Jordan Mascarenhas Co-founder of Bartisans believes that “If you have a constant group like me, keep drinks and mixers they haven’t tried, it makes the usual gang hang out fresh and gives us something new to do!”
Unless you’re hosting a formal dinner party, it's better to keep refreshments light. Serve a collection of tasty appetisers for your guests to enjoy alongside a selection of dips, crackers, cheese, and fruit. Amongst innumerable food startups, Graiz India and Dipsology are two of them that provide gourmet platters, curated as per your food preferences. Their casual yet chic setups along with their delectable nibbles are sure to keep the party going without having to sit down for a full-course meal. Their platters include breads, exotic fruits, crackers, cheese, dried fruits, crudites, gourmet bakery treats, wholesome dips and spreads, and much more.
What is a New Year’s party without music? And what’s better, is a karaoke machine that will liven up the mood with some of the most popular songs everybody loves. So, bring out the speakers, turn on the disco lights and make your guests feel like dancing while they belt out their favourite tunes and wait for the clock to strike twelve.
Along with music, a lot of people like to play games. Mumbai-based brand, Games Knight, founded by Mridula Gupta offers a wide range of personalised card games, board games, puzzles, drinking games, life-size games and more! “Since it is New Year’s Eve, most people have an agenda of heavy drinking, and we have some perfect options available! Our bestselling game ‘Drunk Knight’ is guaranteed to bring your party to life. We also have a ‘Drunk Tower Game’ which is a fun custom Jenga, guaranteed to get you tipsy! For non-drinking options, we offer a conversation game called ‘Let’s Talk’. It aims to promote deeper and meaningful conversations and it can be played between friends and family to talk about their feelings and reminisce about the year that’s gone by,” discusses Mridula.
When you're hosting a party, decorations are always essential. Even if it’s a last-minute party, you can still find a lot of festive items to make your home look beautiful. Priyanka Shah, founder of Studio Lalala gives an insight on her New Year’s Eve ritual and shares a few simple tricks that can elevate a house party. Priyanka says, “The beauty of a New Year's Eve house party is in the intimate nature of the celebration. The cosiness of a home adds warmth to the occasion. It also allows for creative freedom in décor and the flexibility to tailor the celebration to your preferences. I like spending New Year's Eve at a friend’s house in Alibaug. Everybody present at the celebration contributes to bringing the day alive.
There are a few things that make all the difference in house party setups. I truly believe in attacking all the senses - sight, smell, sound, and taste. Flowers never fail to uplift spirits. If you’ve picked flowers with a strong fragrance, great! If not, I would recommend lighting a candle, diffuser or oil in the space. Starting the party with a little bit of jazz and blues is my personal favourite. Begin slow and let the music pick up as the mood changes through the evening. Food is an important element. Dedicate a table just for the appetizers and snacks to last the whole evening and you can then lead it to a massive pot of biryani or pizzas as per your preference.”
It’s almost time to welcome 2024, and we’re bursting with excitement. Food? Check. Decor? Check. Games? Check. Drinks? Check. Now just prepare your guest list and get ready to host a New Year’s party they will never forget. Keep these New Year decor tips in mind and remember, your smile is the best welcome for your guests!
