Four colour trends that reveal what we expect from our homes now: Joy, rejuvenation, adventure, and flexibility
Every year Asian Paints reveals its colour trend forecast after much research and deliberation. The Colour of the Year 2021 – Cherish – is a shade of mint green that is soft, nurturing and fresh. Along with the Colour of the Year, India’s largest paint company identifies four colour families that are inspired by the prevailing thought processes, attitudes and moods. The colour palettes also introduce material, finish, texture and pattern predictions. For 2021, the trending sentiments translated into colour palettes uncovered the following four trends:
While we sat indoors, nature was rejuvenating. Habitat is a colour story of restoration and healing; it portrays moving forward with a healthier, more balanced approach. The palette sees warm, earthy colours like moss green and rust play with pale yellow and teal. Paired with this colour palette are visually tactile textures, organic patterns and biomimicry in design.
This trend represents how we have reinterpreted our personal spaces and how the concept of home will continue to take on new layers as we progress in this year. Uplifting colours like soft green and pink are balanced with versatile neutrals and calming shades of blue to create a comforting home environment. A utilitarian aesthetic with simple geometry and meditative patterns completes the look.
This trend symbolizes the joy we are now getting from investing in things that matter; where function and enduring charm trump mindless indulgences. The colour story manifests as classic colours with a vintage feel – hues like sage, dusky blue and creamy ivory are paired with deep green and wood brown. Simple forms, low-reflective finishes as well as timeless materials like organic linen, khaadi, rattan, copper, earthenware and cast iron weave in an innate cultural narrative.
This trend is inspired by the youthful GenZs - their confidence, spirit of adventure as well as fluid and liberal view. The authentic approach sees visual representation in an unusual pairing of shades of cotton candy and powder blue contrasted with bright green and vibrant orange. Rough and smooth textures, an experimental mix of materials and fluid forms represent a non-judgemental, all-inclusive path forward.
