This colourful toddler’s nook is the perfect playtime, story time and nap time retreat

Start with a broad theme centred on something that you would like your toddler to learn about - colours, planets and stars or even book characters. You can take a leaf out of our book and start with nature. We chose sunshiny yellow to dominate the space and spiked the palette with shades of blue and green. Next, we added floral printed wallpaper, animal-themed cushions, and child-friendly figurines. You can choose to include a stuffed toy from your childhood and tell your child about favourite memories, incorporate some unstructured storytelling, and expand their vocabulary without trying too hard.
 

Wicker baskets are great for storage but also perfect for teaching kids to count and organise their toys. A thick dhurrie serves as a fun take on a picnic blanket and helps give them a space to read, do crafts and teaches the importance of sitting in one place to concentrate on an activity. Add a simple wooden toy-house frame to hang colourful mobiles and encourage gross motor skills like building forts and perhaps inviting over some imaginary friends for a campout too!
 

Overall, aim to create a room that will grow and evolve with your child - something you add to and subtract from as their tastes and preferences change over the years.
