A portrait of Alejandro Aravena

This week, design connoisseurs will be flocking to Delhi for the city’s most important design festival. Here’s what we think is unmissable

Since its inception in 2013, the Asian Paints India Design ID has brought the biggest names in design to the capital. And this year is no different. The three-day affair which starts on February 12, will stretch itself across three key concepts—ID Symposium, ID Exhibit and ID Satellite. From discovering the latest in design to witnessing a glorious spectacle of speakers, here’s a round-up of everything you just can't miss.

Id Symposium
This podium has seen the participation of global stalwarts, including Tom Dixon, Fumihiko Maki, Marcel Wanders, Patricia Urquiola, Michele de Lucchi and Sou Fujimoto. This year’s edition will be opened by architect Brinda Somaya’s solo talk. Stay back to get a glimpse of the design trends that you’ll be seeing everywhere in 2019 from the four Asian Paints ColourNext panelists—Pavitra Rajaram, Pooja Dhingra, Maximiliano Modesti and Yoko Shizimu. The talks to watch out for on day 2 are Asif Khan, Ayaz Basrai and Kapil Gupta’s Technology and its Future in Design & Architecture and Bose Krishnamachari, Iram Sultan, Raghavendra Rathore and Sandeep Khosla’s Anatomy of Emotions in Art, Design and Architecture. On the last day stay back to catch Chilean Pritzker-prize winner and artistic director for the 2016 Venice Architecture Biennale Alejandro Aravena’s talk. You’ll thank us later.

Id Exhibit
With endless booths by over 130 exhibitors, this serves as the ideal launchpad for everything in design—be it lighting, furniture, tableware, furnishings, or even faucets and flooring or art and antiques. Come discover the trends and the homes of the future in the making.

Id Satellite
This hip, offsite vertical of the design fair takes place across New Delhi’s design districts—Lado Sarai, Meherchand Market, Shahpur Jat, Defence Colony and MG Road. Between February 7-10, head to stores such as BoConcept, Iqrup + Ritz, IndiStore, Klove Studio and Vayu-Design for Living as well as restaurants in these five precincts for the unveiling of new collections, to attend workshops and movie screenings and avail special discounts.

ColourNext 2019
From the preview night on February 11, right till the end of India Design ID, this pavilion will be buzzing with activity. Watch out for the unveiling of the Asian Paints’ much-awaited Colour of the Year 2019 on the eve of the fair’s opening, and the announcement of the trend forecast for the year on February 14. The ColourNext Pavilion will host a number of panel discussions on colour and trends, musical performances and after parties.
