Take inspiration from the soothing and meditative interiors of Café Ceylon in Sri Lanka
With its old-fashioned tile roof and powder blue trimmed windows, Café Ceylon makes a laidback impression on visitors. But a walk through its interiors reveals a décor theme that is perfect for this beach-side boutique resort that is a few hours out of Sri Lanka’s capital city. It’s one you might want to emulate for that retirement home you keep dreaming about.
Started by Anura Saparamadu who returned to his country of birth after having exited another similarly named venture in NYC, Café Ceylon’s interiors are simple, employing cane furniture seating with cotton upholstery in its common areas and four poster beds with canopies in sheer white linen- it’s enough to transport you into faraway lands in case the beach wasn't enough to do that job.
Large sized graphic prints based on the theme of Ceylon (a moniker given to Sri Lanka by the British during colonial days) dominate the hall area, lending visual relief to the bare white walls. If you like the interiors of Café Ceylon, consider some of these décor cues for that retirement getaway.
Fussy furniture gets a thumbs down while practical cane furniture with easy to maintain cotton upholstery gets a thumbs up. Clean, graphic prints that sit alongside windows with blue trim help provide drama on simple white walls while four poster beds in the bedroom suites with sheer white linen for the canopy provide a dreamy escape.
