Designers Hack featuring We Design Studio

In this edition of our brand new series called ‘Designers Hack’, we have for you, Saahil Parikh, Principal Architect at We Design Studio based out of Mumbai. Let’s take a look at the house they transformed a few years ago. Going for a minimal and modern design theme in a city apartment, the team successfully designed a space that feels spacious, promotes creativity and brings in a sense of calmness in the middle of metropolitan chaos.
While in the video below, you can see the space in entirety. Let’s dive a little deeper into the process Saahil and his team followed to bring this home to life by taking the first step right, i.e. painting the walls white using Asian Paints Royale L-105.
Here’s everything that you can achieve by just starting with the right colour:
1. Set The Stage Like A Blank Canvas
Painting the walls and ceiling white, and using white Italian marble on the floors, gives you a neutral playground for design experimentations using different structures, elements and patterns.
2. Allow The Colours To Pop
Be it a simple yellow chair or piece of abstract art, against an all white set up, the focus falls on the unique colourful elements you pick to enhance the style in your house.
3. Flexibility To Experiment
From different fabric materials for curtains to tapestries and art pieces, you can let every element in the space draw attention to itself, without thinking about the colours and elements clashing with the wall paint. It also does justice to the art pieces adorning the house. Now there is one less thing for you to worry about in the process of designing.
4. Balanced Illumination
We know that white is the best reflector but using light design techniques to make sure the space stays pleasant for the eyes is necessary. Just like Saahil and his team made use of spot lights that bounce off of the walls everywhere for greater degree of illumination without the result being too bright at any point in day.
