In Season 9 of Asian Paints’ Where The Heart Is, we step inside the Gambhirs’ bright family home in the capital that balances calm whites, natural warmth and quiet sophistication
Gautam Gambhir has always been known for his intensity. The fire that shaped some of Indian cricket’s most iconic moments. From the 2007 ICC World T20 win in Johannesburg to that unforgettable 97 in the 2011 World Cup final, his focus has never wavered.
And you if know him as “Gambhir” from his years on the pitch, you’d remember the game face, the composure, the focus and the intensity of someone who never plays halfway. Those qualities run through his home too. It’s steady, ordered and confident. At the same time, his home is also designed for just “Gautam”, the man who loves white.
Tucked in a quiet, tree-lined lane in New Delhi, the two-storey home opens into a soaring atrium capped with a domed ceiling where sunlight spills over dark wood railings and hand-carved balustrades. The palette is intentionally hushed with layers of ivory, linen and cream that shift gently through the day.
The current head coach of the Indian men’s national cricket team explains it simply: “I have always loved the calm of white. After long days, all the noise and rush, coming home resets something in me,” he says. “The white walls gives you space to think, to breathe and just to be.”
Gautam shares this home with his wife Natasha and their daughters, Aazeen and Anaiza. It’s white from the outside in but not the flat white of a showroom. The walls are finished in “Lankan Jasmine” by Asian Paints’ Nilaya Arc Matt, a lime-based paint that breathes, absorbing sunlight rather than bouncing it back at you. It’s the domestic equivalent of unclenching your jaw.
This soft wash of white, climbing from floor to dome, is broken only by warm wood, polished marble and the polite glint of chandeliers. Natasha, who has steered much of the décor, works in contrasts with scalloped pelmets softening tall windows, velvet cushions against carved wood, the occasional metallic accent that gleams before you quite notice it. The furniture is classic with tufted chairs, crystal pendants and glossy consoles but it’s the sense of restraint that lingers.
Gautam and Natasha’s home is a reminder that good design isn’t just about grand gestures. And the white walls, layered fabrics and golden light in this home come together not just to impress but also to comfort. As Gautam puts it, “When you come home, this is your space. It gives you security, it gives you stability.” And home, he says, “is all about peace.”
Gautam and Natasha Gambhir’s home isn’t designed to just dazzle at first sight. It’s a space shaped by soft light, layered whites, carved wood, embroidered drapes and polished marble. The ability to mix glamour with comfort makes this house feel both elegant and grounded. Whether you’re working with a small apartment, a family bungalow or styling a formal room, choosing curtains or curating a wall of memories, these tips offer ideas you can adapt at any scale:
An all-white home can look sterile if every surface is the same tone. In the Gambhirs’ home, white becomes a language with slight shifts between ivory, linen and cream that make the rooms feel dynamic instead of flat. The trick is in pairing textures – matte walls, polished wood, cotton upholstery and gleaming marble. Each plays with light differently through the day, creating movement even in stillness.
Pro Tip: Choose one neutral white as your base – something timeless like “Lankan Jasmine” by Asian Paints’ Nilaya Arc Matt – and design around it with varying degrees of contrast. Other beautiful neutral shades in the Nilaya Arc Matt range include Olympian Marble, Imperial Cream, Kesavu Saree and Pastel Chalk. You can then add a slightly darker rug to anchor the floor, wooden accents for texture and sheer linen curtains to diffuse sunlight. These layers will make your space glow naturally rather than depend on artificial light.
Natasha loves metallic accents but never lets them overpower the room. A grand chandelier over the dining table, brass-rimmed mirrors or frames and a sculptural wood screen painted in a soft gold metallic finish bring light without flash. The trick is to pair shimmer with softness. When there’s a gold or metal detail, there’s also something matt or textural beside it like a rug, a velvet cushion or indoor plants.
Pro Tip: Use metallics like punctuation, not prose. A hint of shimmer draws the eye in but too much makes it hard to rest. For accent walls, Asian Paints Royale Play offers a range of water-based textured wall paint in metallic finishes like Royale Play Velour Classique and Royale Play Dune Halo. You can also work with an acrylic-based special effect paint from the Asian Paints WoodTech Insignia Luxe Collection – the Chrome or Metallic Series on wooden furniture or small accents, like on the legs of a side table, a narrow border or a carved wooden panel.
Natasha’s attention to detail shows in the way every window makes its own design statement—layered curtains that frame rather than hide the windows, scalloped pelmets that echo the curves of ceiling coves and embroidered motifs and trims that add delicate ornamentation to the overall look.
Think of curtains as sculptural elements. Combine sheers and thicker drapes on separate tracks so you can control privacy and light. Use a colour palette that connects with your walls—pale golds, ivory or soft blush will always look sophisticated. The Asian Paints collaboration with Pure Fine Fabrics for curtains and Asian Paints Sabyasachi Paris-Calcutta collections for upholstery feature classic textures and embroidered detailing that lend just the right amount of glamour.
Pro Tip: For added polish, match the window pelmet fabric to your blinds and other upholstery. Soft fabric pelmets in the same tone as your wall will also make the transition between wall, curtain and ceiling feels seamless. It’s a small design detail that makes a big difference to how open a room feels.
Gautam’s trophy lounge is elegant and emotional. His medals, unwashed jerseys and signed bats share space with books, family photos and small mementos. “I’m not very comfortable showing my achievements,” he admits, “But this room was done with a lot of affection and love.”
You don’t need trophies to create a story wall. A similar corner in any home could hold postcards, children’s artwork, family photographs or heirlooms that tell your story on floating shelves, narrow ledges or a slim console. Treat this section like a visual diary that evolves as you do.
A great way to accentuate this sort of space is to paint the wall behind the showcase in a slightly contrasting tone with shades from the Asian Paints Royale Glitz Ultra Matt Luxury Emulsion series. The Ultra Matt interior paint provides a rich luxurious finish to your walls so the display stands out subtly.
Pro Tip: Use warm lighting like a wall sconce or picture lamp from The White Teak company by Asian Paints—we especially recommend the dainty Smitten Wall Light or the circular Boomerang Alabaster Wall Light to bring intimacy to the arrangement.
The soft pink children’s rooms connect through a shared playroom that keeps their energy in circulation. It carries the musical hum of Aazeen’s piano practice and the chatter of Anaiza’s dolls—all 150 of them. Natasha designed the rooms to age well, so they don’t feel “babyish” as the girls grow older. The lesson here is longevity. Choose a calming base colour and change the décor over time instead of repainting every few years.
Pro Tip: Pick colours that are joyful but not too loud like gentle pinks, mint greens or sky blues like Asian Paints Nautilus 7411, Baby Aqua 7507, Echo of Spring 7674, Rosette 8050 and 8091 Day Dream. Use wallpaper or art decals from Asian Paints Nilaya Small World Wallpaper Collection or Asian Paints Nilaya Once Upon a Time Wallpaper Collection for temporary bursts of fun. Add baskets, low shelves and leave room for plenty of natural light. The goal is to create a space that feels creative and personal, not themed or overdesigned.
Walk through the Gambhirs’ home and you’ll notice rhythm—the same soft gold tone glints in lighting and handles, the same ivory on walls and ceilings. Repetition brings calm. It’s a simple way to make a home feel designed, not decorated. Identify one tone or texture that defines your taste—maybe a warm wood or a brushed metal finish—and repeat it subtly across rooms.
In the this house, warm wood runs like a thread—staircase, screen, door frames and furniture—tying rooms together. “The only dominant colour apart from white in my home is brown,” says Natasha. “Wood has a timeless beauty and if you treat it right, it brings elegance, contrast and warmth.” This visual continuity holds the space together, making every corner feel part of the same story.
Pro Tip: Keep your chosen wood finish consistent and let its grain be the detail. The matte-and-gloss combinations from the Italian-inspired Asian Paints WoodTech Emporio Gold PU Clear luxury wood finishes add depth and protect the grain while adding a subtle, luxurious sheen.
One of the most relatable details in this home is the balcony where Gautam and Natasha start each day with tea, enjoying the sunrise over a hushed conversation before the rest of the house wakes. “When you come back home,” Gautam says, “This is your space that makes you feel secure.”
But you don’t need a huge terrace to make an impact, just intent. Dedicate one corner of your home to a ritual you love like a coffee station, chair by a window, a nook in the balcony or a space for reading or prayer. A space where you return to yourself each day can become the most peaceful part of your home.
Pro Tip: Treat balconies, verandas or even windowsills like rooms of their own. Paint exteriors in weather-resistant finishes such as Asian Paints Apex Ultima Weatherproof Exterior Emulsion to keep them looking fresh. The Apex Ultima range also helps to stop the growth of algae and fungus to retain the beauty and health of your walls.
