Contemporary interiors with an Indian vernacular twist define this Vadodara home
How often do you come across a home built on a one acre property near a riverbank? Oh, the good life. This minimalist structure with modern elements is designed by Vadodara based Dipen Gada, who is known to work the India Modern style with ease.
“The space had to look huge and seamless and beyond the definition of a typical house,” says Dipen of the brief he received. Located in a place with an extremely hot and dry climate, it was necessary to have a house that offered a mild and pleasant climatic condition.
As you enter the house, you can experience the linearity of it. The huge blank cavity wall facing southwest is created for the purpose of protection against the heat in soaring summers. This wall acts as the spine of the house – narrow punctures on the west side allow the flowing wind in, while the air vents in the skylights in the east corner act as escape routes for the hot air. We love how the landscaped terrace offers a natural buffer for the house.
The living room with a view of the pool is furnished in traditional details, clean lined furniture, and a contemporary palette of grays, blues and browns. Next to it, sits the dining room and the small compact kitchen. Large sliding doors of home theatre provide a view of the entire site and seamlessly integrate the interiors with the exteriors.
The architecture takes full advantage of its countryside location while the muted palette creates a relaxing atmosphere.
