A no-cost DIY tutorial to update your old containers
Whether you need help navigating through the spice rack or want some visual stability for the assorted storage jars you hoarded for re-use, we found an easy, no-cost hack for personalising your containers.
What You Need
● Bond paper with text printed
● Cello tape
● Glass jar
● Bowl (filled with warm water)
● Scissors
Process:
1. Print-out the text for the label on bond paper; black is the ideal text colour for this process. Himanshu Lakhwani, founder of Truetype, recommended the following three fonts.
● Bebas Neue: This straightforward font with clean lines is for those who like to keep things elegant.
● Chasing Embers: This watercolour-texture font is ideal for transparent surfaces like glass or acrylic.
● Swistblnk Monthoers: This one has a dash of quirk and is ideal for those who border on the playful side of decor.
2. Stick the cello tape over the text ensuring that it is completely covered with one strip of the tape. Maintaining a minimum width of two inches is recommended for the stability of the label.
3. Rub the tape's surface after application to ensure that the printed text gets transferred on the tape.
4. Cut the taped paper as per the dimensions of the text, leaving some margins.
5. Immerse it in the bowl with warm water for 20-30 minutes.
6. To remove the paper, rub that side till only the text print is left on the tape.
7. Let it dry for 15 minutes, with the sticky portion of the tape facing up. This helps it regain its stickiness.
8. The label can now be stuck on the jar.
