Veda Villa by New Delhi-based AND Studio is all about sophistication and serenity
There’s nothing quite as gratifying for designers as happy clients. And the design for Veda Villa certainly led to satisfied homeowners. “They value the home’s quietude, its timeless palette and the sense of personal grounding it offers despite its model-villa origins,” says Love Choudhary, principal architect and CEO of New Delhi-based AND Studio. For this villa in a Raipur neighbourhood, the firm had to navigate a couple of challenges. One was the proximity to the airport. The other, working within the constraints posed by an existing structure, which was part of a builder’s model-villa’ programme.
Choudhary and design director Arush Bansal, along with their team, had to conceive a design to respond to this template. The aim was to create a personalised home with a distinct identity and emotional heft. That they succeeded is evident from the homeowners’ reaction. “They feel the design reflects their own sensibility: luxurious in spirit, but calm, comfortable and deeply livable,” he states. As for the busy transit routes, the bustle hardly registers in this inward-looking sanctuary. Choudhary offers insights into the making of Veda Villa.
Love Choudhary (LC): Our involvement encompassed interiors and landscape. The model-villa framework predetermined the architectural shell, so we had to reinterpret its volumes rather than redefine them. Spatial refinement became our tool of intervention. We used layered surfaces, strategic layouts and calibrated sightlines to soften the existing geometry and enhance the sense of openness. We wanted to steer the home away from the formulaic language typically associated with show villas.
LC: It influenced our decision to cultivate a cocooned interior atmosphere. [To achieve that], we drew on muted tones, tactile finishes and landscape buffers to establish a sense of calm that counterbalances the surroundings.
LC: The clients envisioned a home that felt composed and enduring rather than overtly decorative—a tranquil family retreat where contemporary luxury is tempered with a connection to nature. The emphasis was on comfort, softness and an intuitive day-to-day flow. The villa’s planning reinforces this sensibility. Public and private spaces are clearly defined yet visually and experientially connected. The main shared areas accommodate both formal gatherings and relaxed family life, while the bedrooms are quiet sanctuaries, with gentler, more intimate materiality.
LC: We saw this home as understated yet sensorial, where luxury emerges quietly through texture, proportion and the modulation of light. The material palette is deliberately restrained: marble cladding, warm wood veneers, soft neutral hues and measured gold accents. The furniture pieces are low-slung and contemporary to preserve visual serenity. The wall art and crafted details anchor the home in the cultural cadence of the city, adding depth to its otherwise calm palette.
LC: Yes, they were an integral narrative layer from the outset. The clients did not have an existing collection. This allowed us to curate pieces that resonated with the home’s serene vibe. Rather than decorative additions, the artworks function as atmospheric anchors, subtly reinforcing mood, memory and material warmth.
LC: We incorporated a palette of PU finishes, textured paints, ceiling paints and crisp white surfaces. They were chosen for their ability to support the villa’s softly layered aesthetic and its nuanced lighting conditions. The PU and textured systems enabled us to modulate sheen, tactility and depth with precision. The ceiling and white paints enhanced the evenness of light, helping decorative fixtures sit harmoniously within the larger composition.
LC: Yes, this was a first for us. Given the project’s emphasis on quiet luxury, surface quality was paramount. The choices maintained the calm, contemporary language we envisioned for the home.
LC: It became a natural extension of the interior language. The planting and outdoor configurations reinforce the villa’s retreat-like character and offer a soft buffer to the airport adjacency. We also maintained a continuous dialogue between indoors and out. In the living area, the interplay between the lounge and the surrounding open volumes captures the home’s essence.
