Media lounge with bold patterns – Beautiful Homes

Designed by P & D Associates, this home showcases creativity through its custom-made creations, and a choice of Asian Paints’ premium offerings

When a couple approached Devang Patel and Pratik Siddhpura, principal architects at P & D Associates, to design their home, they had a few ideas in mind for its interiors. Built as an extension of their existing old home, the couple tasked the firm with the execution of the new build and interior space. Over a period of one-and-a-half years, the duo brought the family’s dream home to life, which currently houses the couple, their two-year-old son and his grandparents. Located in Ankleshwar, Gujarat several elements in this residence are custom-made, adding a layer of exclusivity and personality to the design.

BH: What was the design brief given by the clients?

P & D: The couple wanted a refined, contemporary home that seamlessly blended aesthetics with functionality to suit their lifestyle. They required clearly defined zones for work, relaxation, and entertainment—leading to the inclusion of a home bar, a sculptural workspace, and cosy lounge areas. Ample storage was a key need, which was addressed through custom wardrobes and built-in shelving. They also emphasised the importance of natural light and openness, prompting the use of translucent materials like glass bricks and a soft, neutral palette. Overall, the design needed to feel curated yet liveable, balancing artistic expression with day-to-day practicality.

BH: What are the different design elements that you’ve used in this residence?

P & D: The foundation of the space is built on clean lines, minimalistic forms, and a neutral colour palette, creating a sophisticated and calming backdrop throughout the home. We introduced eclectic touches through the use of layered textures, material contrasts, and playful pops of colour—seen in the ochre ottoman in the bedroom and the mint green sectional in the living area. Subtle luxury is achieved through the choice of rich materials like polished marble flooring, bespoke furniture, and detailed finishes, all adding a refined yet comfortable character. Together, these elements have created a home that feels lived-in and deeply personal, blending sophistication with creative vibrancy. The design theme we followed can be best described as ‘modern contemporary with an artistic and eclectic edge’.

BH: Can you walk us through the entire space, highlighting the special touches that underscore the design theme?

P & D: The design journey begins in the contemporary office, bathed in natural light, where two sleek black shelving units display a curated selection of monochrome artworks, underscoring a minimalist yet sophisticated aesthetic.

Transitioning into the bedroom, the space offers a serene blend of textures and forms. Adjacent to the bedroom, the chic dressing area has warm-toned panelled wardrobes, sleek black accents, and a plush velvet ottoman centred beneath a striking modern chandelier.

The media lounge unfolds in a softer palette, where wall panelling in a serene sea-foam blue fabric wraps the space in a cocoon-like comfort. Finally, the bar area emerges as a sophisticated centrepiece within the entertainment space clad in luxurious marble and layered with an illuminated mosaic texture.

BH: What were the challenges you came across while planning and executing this home’s design?

P & D: One of the major challenges we faced during the planning and execution of the design was achieving a delicate balance between strong artistic statements and maintaining a sense of quiet, liveable luxury. Another challenge was ensuring that each area—from the office to the media lounge—maintained its distinct character while still feeling connected through a cohesive design language. To overcome these challenges, we adopted a highly curated approach, selecting a restrained colour palette and harmonising textures to ensure continuity. Functional needs were seamlessly integrated into the aesthetic, such as incorporating hidden storage and multifunctional furniture pieces.

BH: What Asian Paints products or services were used in this home?

P & D: This home showcases a refined use of Asian Paints’ premium offerings, seamlessly integrated into its modern and artistic interiors. The walls are finished with Royale Aspira, lending them a rich, ultra-smooth texture with a luxurious sheen and added durability. The wardrobes and cabinetry feature a sleek matte and wood finish, which finds the use of Emporio PU coatings to achieve a premium, long-lasting result. The rugs used are also from Asian Paints. Overall, the palette reflects an approach where calm, earthy colours are elevated with playful yet controlled accents, capturing a perfect modern contemporary essence.

BH: Tell us about the art and custom-made pieces in this residence?

P & D: We custom-made objects like the metallic desk in the home office, the sculptural metal installation above the bed called Frozen Symphony, the panelled wardrobe in the dressing area, and the glass brick bar counter. The art displayed throughout the home is carefully curated to complement each space’s mood and design language. Many were sourced from independent contemporary artists and design studios. Some artworks were also custom-commissioned to align with the colour palette and architectural detailing of each room. The Shrinathji artwork is by us. We treated the art not just as decoration, but as an integral part of the interior narrative, enhancing the home’s refined character.
